Communciating with the University Community
In the event of a major emergency affecting the UNO campus, the administration may use one or more of the following means to communicate with the university community:
- All-campus email
- UNO Alert text message and email alerts
- Posts on UNO's official Facebook and Twitter accounts
- Emergency banner on the UNO homepage
- Overhead pages and indicator lights on campus
- Emergency information line (402.554.2255)
- Media outlets
UNO uses text message capabilities to reach a broader area than other methods permit. You can also elect to receive an email of the emergency message.
This service is free to the UNO community.
All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to sign up.
Sign Up for Alerts Using Your NetID: The UNO NetID is your username and password for online services that are specific to UNO, like your email. If you need assistance in this process, please email Sgt. Dave Points at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Opt-In Via Text Message (NetID not required): Text unoalert to 79516 to opt-in. A NetID is not required for this process. Standard messaging and data rates apply.
Timely warnings are one type of notification you may receive in the event that there is an ongoing threat to the campus community.
The federal Clery Act requires colleges and universities to issue timely warnings to the campus community when there is an ongoing threat to public safety.
The university typically will not issue a timely warning if a crime is made and it’s believed a threat no longer exists.
