A number of resources are available for distributing and receiving critical information and instructions during an emergency.
Communicating with the University Community
In the event of a major emergency affecting the UNO campus, the administration may use one or more of the following means to communicate with the university community:
- All-campus email
- UNO Alert text message, email, and phone call notifications
- Posts on UNO's official Facebook and Twitter accounts
- Emergency banner on the UNO homepage
- Overhead pages and indicator lights on campus
- Emergency information line (402.554.2255)
- Media outlets
UNO Alert Notifications: Update Your Info
The UNO Alert Notification System helps reach a broad audience quickly. It automatically includes all current students, faculty, and staff.
To ensure you receive timely and accurate alerts, we encourage all members of the UNO community to verify and update their contact information.
Once you login, you can also chose how you are notified. Options include a text message, email, phone call, or any combination of these notifications.
Timely Warnings
Timely warnings are one type of notification you may receive in the event that there is an ongoing threat to the campus community.
The federal Clery Act requires colleges and universities to issue timely warnings to the campus community when there is an ongoing threat to public safety.
The university typically will not issue a timely warning if a crime is made and it’s believed a threat no longer exists.
