Frequently Asked Questions

What are Dining Dollars?

Dining Dollars are prepaid funds loaded onto your MavCARD that you can use to buy food and drinks at dining locations on both Dodge and Scott Campuses. They work like a debit card, giving you the flexibility to purchase meals, snacks, and beverages outside of a traditional meal plan.

Who recieves Dining Dollars automatically?

Students who live on campus are automatically enrolled in the Dining Dollars program each Fall and Spring semester, with a minimum of $100 loaded onto their MavCARD.

How are Dining Dollars different from a meal plan?

Scott Campus Meal Plans are available only through Scott Dining and offer all-you-care-to-eat meals based on a set or unlimited number of meals.

Dining Dollars act as a declining balance that you can use at a variety of on-campus dining locations, including coffee shops and convenience stores. They offer more flexibility and are managed by the Milo Bail Student Center Business Office in partnership with Housing.

What is the difference between Dining Dollars and MavMONEY?

Dining Dollars

Dining Dollars are prepaid funds used specifically for food and drinks at dining locations on the Dodge and Scott Campuses. These include cafés, food courts, and convenience stores. All students living on campus are automatically enrolled and receive at least $100 per semester, with the option to purchase additional funds. Off-campus students are not automatically enrolled but may choose to buy a Dining Dollars plan. Any unused Dining Dollars will roll over from the Fall to the Spring Semester but must be used by the end of the Spring Semester or they will expire. Purchases made with Dining Dollars are tax free.

MavMONEY

MavMONEY is a flexible campus spending account that can be used for more than just dining. It works at a variety of campus locations including dining areas, vending machines, The Maverick Store, WEPA printing stations, and more. MavMONEY is available to all students, and there is no plan or minimum amount required to add funds. Unlike Dining Dollars, MavMONEY does not expire as long as you are enrolled at UNO. However, purchases made with MavMONEY are taxed.

Dining Dollars are accepted at the following campus dining locations:

Dodge Campus

  • Starbucks at Criss Library (in-store purchases only)

Note: Retail locations and venues are subject to change.

How do I check my balance?

You can check your Dining Dollars balance anytime using the GET mobile app (available for Apple and Android) or the web portal.

When and how can I add more Dining Dollars?

You can add $300, $500, or $1,000 in Dining Dollars during the enrollment period, which extends through the first few weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters. Add funds through the online storefront or by visiting the MBSC Business Office.

You may also charge Dining Dollars to your student account by selecting “Payment by Check, Scholarship, or External Agency” at checkout.

Can I use Dining Dollars off-campus or during breaks?

No, Dining Dollars can only be used at on-campus dining locations. Availability may vary during university breaks and holidays, so check the dining schedule for current hours.

Do Dining Dollars expire?

Yes. Any unused Dining Dollars will expire at the end of the Spring semester and do not carry over to summer or future semesters.

Can I get a refund or opt out of Dining Dollars?

Refund Policy

A 50% refund of the purchase price is available until the first day of classes. A request for refund can be submitted to unombscbizoffice@unomaha.edu. If you need assistance or have inquiries about the Dining Plan, please reach out to the Milo Bail Student Center Business Office at 402.554.2981.

No refunds or cancellations are permitted starting 12:01 A.M. on Monday, January 12, 2026.

Opting Out for Medical Dietary Restrictions

To request a medical dietary accommodation, students should log in to the ASC application portal with their single sign-on credentials, complete the “Housing Disability Support Request,” and upload their supporting medical documentation.

What happens if I lose my MavCARD?

Report your lost card to the MBSC Business Office immediately. Your remaining Dining Dollars will be transferred to your new MavCARD.

Can I share my Dining Dollars with someone else?

No. Dining Dollars are non-transferable and can only be used by the person they are assigned to.

Are there any fees or taxes associated with Dining Dollars?

No. There are no service fees, and purchases made with Dining Dollars are tax-free.
