Eligibility
To receive a MavCARD, an individual must be an active member of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Enrollment or employment status will be verified prior to card issuance. Eligible individuals include currently enrolled students, active faculty or staff, and approved affiliates. Each individual may have only one active MavCARD, which is issued based on their primary role with the university.
All individuals must present a valid, government-issued photo ID for identity verification, provide their university-issued NUID number, and meet the criteria outlined below:
- Students: Newly admitted or returning students who are enrolled in at least one (1) course in the current or upcoming semester are eligible to receive a MavCARD. Individuals appointed as graduate assistants (GA) or teaching assistants (TA) are issued a student MavCARD.
- Employees: Faculty, staff, and other employees may receive a MavCARD on or after their official start date once their information has been successfully entered into the University HR system. Employees, including those participating in the employee scholarship program, are issued a faculty/staff MavCARD and are not eligible for a student MavCARD.
- Affiliates: Affiliate MavCARDs are issued to individuals who are not current UNO students, faculty, or staff but have a temporary affiliation with the university (e.g., contractors, volunteers, or campus partners). UNO departments must submit the appropriate Affiliate MavCARD Request Form prior to issuance.
Obtaining a MavCARD In Person
To get a MavCARD, visit the MavCARD Services Office in MBSC 216. The office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., excluding university holidays. Wait times may be longer during busy times, especially at the start of the semester.
In-Person Process
Step 1: Present Your NUID Number and a Valid Photo ID.
The University requires a person’s photo and identity to be verified against an approved form of identification to issue a MavCARD. All forms of ID must be the original physical document. Photocopies or photos on a mobile device are not accepted.
- Provide ONE of the following (must include both your name and photo):
- Domestic or foreign driver’s license
- Military ID
- Domestic or foreign passport
- Any other state or government issued ID with your photo and name.
- If one does not have a government-issued ID, TWO forms of alternate identification must be presented (one must include both your name and photo):
- High school ID card
- School yearbook photo with your photo and name
- High school diploma
- Birth Certificate
- Medicare or Medicaid card with your name
- Permanent residence card
For questions on additional forms of identification, email unomavcardservices@unomaha.edu.
Note: MavCARDs are not considered a legal form of identification and are not to be used for purposes outside of the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Step 2: Take or Upload a Photo
A photo can be taken in the office or uploaded ahead of time through the MavCARD GET Mobile App.
Uploaded photos must meet MavCARD Photo Requirements and must be approved before a card can be printed. Submissions are manually reviewed by MavCARD Services staff and may take up to one full business day to process.
In general, photos must meet similar standards to a passport or driver’s license photo, and must be recent, in color, taken against a solid, light color background, and be a clear front-facing view with head and shoulders centered in frame. A neutral smile is acceptable, provided it does not heavily distort facial features.
If a photo does not meet requirements, a new one will be requested. Uploading a photo ahead of time does not automatically print a card.
Step 3: Receive Your MavCARD
Once information and identity are verified, the MavCARD will be printed and issued during the visit.
Obtaining a MavCARD Online
MavCARDs can be requested online and can either picked up in-person at the MavCARD Services office or mailed to an individual’s address.
Mail and Pick-Up Request Process
Step 1: Upload a Photo
Start by uploading a photo through the MavCARD GET Mobile App.
Uploaded photos must meet MavCARD Photo Requirements and must be approved before a card can be printed. Submissions are manually reviewed by MavCARD Services staff and may take up to one full business day to process.

If a photo does not meet requirements, a new one will be requested. Uploading a photo ahead of time does not automatically print a card.
Step 2: Complete the Request Form
After submitting a photo, complete the MavCARD Services DocuSign Form and select a delivery method:
- Pick-Up in Office: MavCARD will be printed and available for pick-up in the MavCARD Services Office (MBSC 216).
- A valid photo ID is required to pick up the card.
- Mail to Provided Address: MavCARD will be printed and mailed to the address provided on the request form.
- Mailing delivery times vary and are not guaranteed.
- MavCARDs are not mailed to incoming housing students within three weeks of their official move-in date. If a card is not received before moving in, it must be picked up in person at the MavCARD Services Office (MBSC 216).
Once submitted, requests are reviewed and processed within 5–7 business days. A confirmation email with the completed form will be sent once processing is complete. If a request is denied, a reason will be provided on the completed form, and a new form must be submitted after the issue is resolved.
MavMONEY and Adding Funds
What is MavMONEY?
MavMONEY is a prepaid declining balance account linked to the MavCARD and may be used at participating locations on and off campus. The funds deposited are non-transferable and do not accrue interest. Transactions will be denied if there are insufficient funds in the account.
How to Add Funds
Acceptable methods for adding funds include cash, check, or major credit card payments made in person at the MavCARD Services Office, through MavMONEY Cash-to-Card machines, or via the MavCARD GET Mobile App.
Refund Policy
Accounts with no activity for a period of two (2) years will be deemed inactive, and the balance forfeited to the University. Upon permanent separation from the University, cardholders may request a refund of their remaining MavMONEY balance if it exceeds $15.00. A $10.00 administrative fee will be applied to the refund. Refunds will be issued by check and mailed to the cardholder’s permanent address within two (2) weeks. Refunds will not be processed for balances under $15.00, unless otherwise required by law.
Renewing a MavCARD
MavCARDs issued during a previous enrollment period remain valid as long as the individual is an actively enrolled student or a currently employed faculty/staff member and do not need to be replaced each year. A new card is only needed if university status changes (e.g. transitioning from student to faculty/staff or affiliate, or vice versa) or if the card is lost, stolen, or damaged.
Lost, Stolen, or Damaged Cards
If a MavCARD is lost, stolen, or damaged, a replacement must be issued in person.
Lost/Stolen MavCARD Replacement Process
Step 1: Report the Card Lost or Stolen
Report the card lost or stolen to prevent unauthorized use. Visit the Lost or Stolen MavCARDs page for more information.
Step 2: Visit MavCARD Services
Go to the MavCARD Services Office (MBSC 216) to request a replacement.
- Note: All replacements for lost, stolen, and damaged cards are issued in person only. Fully remote or distance education students requesting a replacement for a lost or stolen MavCARD should email unomavcardservices@unomaha.edu for assistance.
Step 3: Present a Valid ID
A valid photo ID is required to verify identity in order to issue a replacement MavCARD. All forms of ID must be the original physical document. Photocopies or photos on a mobile device are not accepted.
Step 4: Pay the Replacement Fee
A $15.00 replacement fee applies to reprinting a MavCARD that is lost, stolen, or damaged. Replacement fees are non-refundable, even if the original card is found later.- Students: Students can either pay the replacement fee in person at the MavCARD Services office front desk or can choose to have the fee applied to their student account.
- Faculty, Staff, and Affiliates: Payment must be made in person at the MavCARD Services office front desk. The fee may not be paid through payroll deduction.
Step 5: Receive Your Replacement Card
Once identity is verified and payment is completed, a new MavCARD will be printed and issued during the visit. Once a replacement card is issued, the old card is permanently deactivated to prevent unauthorized use and cannot be reactivated if found later.
Damaged MavCARDs
Damaged/non-functioning MavCARDs must be surrendered when receiving a replacement and are subject to the replacement fee. Common examples of damage include, but are not limited to:
- Scratches or damage to the magnetic stripe
- Cracks, bending, or warping
- Damage from washing machines, dryers, or chewing
- Deactivation from phones, computers, tablets, or wireless chargers
To avoid damage and keep a MavCARD working properly:
- Keep it away from phones, magnets, and wireless chargers
- Do not punch holes in it or use it as a tool
- Avoid bending, flexing, or storing it in tight spaces.
- Store it flat in a safe space
- Keep it away from extreme heat or cold
Following these tips will help a MavCARD remain reliable for campus access and services.

Facility and Service Access
Possession of a MavCARD does not guarantee access to all University buildings, facilities, services, or resources. Access permissions are determined separately by the appropriate University departments or authorities and may be modified or revoked at any time without notice.
Cardholders are responsible for complying with all University access control policies and procedures.
General Access Issues
The MavCARD Services Office does not manage, assign, or modify building access permissions. Any questions or concerns related to building or facility access must be directed to the cardholders’ department and the University Public Safety department, which oversees access control systems.
Scott Housing Access Issues
Housing students residing on Scott Campus should reach out to the Scott Crossing front desk first if they are experiencing issues with access related to dorm rooms or other Scott Housing related buildings. Scott Housing staff will troubleshoot access issues. If the issue cannot be resolved, Scott Housing staff will email MavCARD Services for next steps.
MavCARD Fees
Students are charged a fee for their MavCARD and MavCARD Services. This fee will show up on a student’s account at the time of registration. (See Mandatory Student Fees)
MavCARD fees are essential to ensuring the operation and maintenance of the MavCARD system. These fees enable the department to provide reliable and efficient services to students, faculty, and staff, ensuring that MavCARDs remain an effective tool for campus life.
Chosen Name Policy
The MavCARD Services Office can print a new MavCARD with a chosen name once it has been officially designated through the appropriate university system. MavCARD Services does not assign or update chosen names directly. Students must update their chosen name through MavLINK in accordance with the University Registrar, and faculty and staff must update their information through Human Resources or Firefly. After the chosen name has been processed, cardholders may visit the MavCARD Services Office to request an updated card. A non-refundable replacement fee will apply for reprinting a MavCARD with a chosen name.
