Losing a MavCARD or having it stolen can be stressful, but taking immediate action is important to prevent unauthorized use. If a MavCARD is lost or stolen, the following steps should be followed.
Step 1: Report It Immediately
As soon as a MavCARD is identified as missing, it must be reported using one of the following methods:
- Visit: MavCARD Services Office (Milo Bail Student Center, Room 216)
- Call: 402.554.2220
- Online: MavCARD GET Online or the MavCARD GET Mobile App
Online reporting optons are available 24/7 and will deactivate the card immediately.
Step 2: Deactivate the Card
Reporting a card as lost or stolen will deactivate it and prevent further use.
- Online: Deactivation occurs instantly when reported through GET.
- In Person or Phone: MavCARD Services will manually deactivate the card.
Step 3: Replace or Reactivate Your MavCARD
After deactivation, either a replacement or reactivation may be necessary, depending on the situation:
Replace a Lost or Stolen MavCARD
To replace a lost or stolen MavCARD, cardholders must be actively enrolled or currently employed at UNO and visit the MavCARD Services Office in person with a valid government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license, passport, or military ID) to verify their identity. A non-refundable replacement fee will apply to have a card reprinted.
Reactivate a Found Card
Cardholders can reactivate their MavCARD through the MavCARD GET Mobile App or by visiting the MavCARD Services Office in person.
Note: Once a replacement card has been issued, the original card is permanently deactivated and cannot be reactivated, even if found later. The replacement fee will not be refunded if the original card is later found after a replacement has been issued.
Found MavCARDs
If a MavCARD is found, it should be returned to the MavCARD Services Office in the Milo Bail Student Center (Room 216). The MavCARD holder will be emailed that their MavCARD has been found. Found cards are held for 14 calendar days from the date of notification. If the card is not claimed within that timeframe, it will be destroyed.
If a card is destroyed due to being unclaimed, the cardholder is responsible for paying the replacement fee to obtain a new MavCARD.
Important Reminder
The University is not responsible for unauthorized use or charges made on a lost or stolen MavCARD. Prompt reporting helps minimize the risk of unauthorized use.
