Jorden Hansen

CBA Scholar Jorden Hansen is a May 2016 graduate of East High School.

The University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Business Administration Scholars Academy is a close-knit community of ambitious, high-achieving business students who want to challenge themselves while pursuing a degree.

Throughout the four years in the program, Scholars are mentored by business professionals in the Omaha community, enroll in special business courses taught by award-winning faculty, and gain real-world experience through community engagement and international travel.

Scholars are selected the spring of their senior year of high school after a rigorous and competitive application process.

Meet Jorden Hansen, of Sioux City, Iowa, a member of the 2016 Cohort.

Why did you choose UNO?

After visiting multiple schools, I couldn't see myself living at any of them. I kept looking, and as soon as I visited UNO, I knew it was where I wanted to continue my education. The apartment-style residence halls were a must for me. I am so excited to decorate my own room and to avoid the community bathrooms often seen at larger schools. Another thing that sold me was the city. I am looking forward to getting a larger city experience in Omaha while staying close to home to visit family and friends. The city presents so many fun things to do and many great job opportunities. Whether it is getting involved with an organization, going to a hockey game, or spending time in Aksarben Village, I know I'll stay busy this school year!

Why did you choose business as a major?

I first looked into business as a major through my dual enrollment high school classes. I took classes such as intro to business, marketing, and accounting. They were enjoyable and came easy to me, which was my first sign it will be a good fit. I also have worked at a clothing boutique named Francesca's for a little over a year. It has taught me my love for the fast-paced environment of retail. I have learned a variety of skills such as multi-tasking, customer service, sales, and leadership. I also love how versatile business majors are. There is a wide variety of fitting careers, and I can't wait to see where I end up.

What business concentration are you planning to pursue? Why?

So far, I am most interested in finance, marketing, and management. Throughout my experiences, these areas just seem to fit my interests the most. Oftentimes concentrations overlap, so I hope to double major. I am very open-minded and am looking forward to learning about each concentration before making the big decision.

What aspect of the Scholars Academy are you most looking forward to?

I am most looking forward to meeting new people. After meeting part of the group on Interview Day and at orientation, I am very excited to meet the rest of the young, talented individuals. I am looking forward to meeting the UNO staff as well as business leaders throughout Omaha. I can't wait to take advantage of these amazing opportunities.

What do you like to do in your free time?

During summer, I like to enjoy the outdoors. I love to swim, go for walks, and ride four-wheelers. In the winter, my favorite things to do are watch movies and go shopping. No matter the season, I love to visit new restaurants and organize things in my house.

What is one thing we would be surprised to know about you?

I couldn't pick between two things, so I will tell both. First, I am a terrible cook. Nothing EVER turns out how it’s supposed to, and I do not enjoy it. The downfall to this is that fact I love to eat, so I really hope my roommates enjoy cooking. Second, I do not like driving. Anytime I can limit my driving, I do. I am still debating on bringing my car to Omaha because the traffic is a lot busier than little ole Sioux City.
