Jakob Mach

CBA Scholar Jakob Mach is a May 2016 graduate of Daniel J. Gross Catholic High School.

The University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Business Administration Scholars Academy is a close-knit community of ambitious, high-achieving business students who want to challenge themselves while pursuing a degree.

Throughout the four years in the program, Scholars are mentored by business professionals in the Omaha community, enroll in special business courses taught by award-winning faculty, and gain real-world experience through community engagement and international travel.

Scholars are selected the spring of their senior year of high school after a rigorous and competitive application process.

Meet Jakob Mach, of Bellevue, Nebraska, a member of the 2016 Cohort.

Why did you choose UNO?

I chose to attend UNO because of the excellent business program at the university. I am excited to further my education in business, and I felt that UNO would be the perfect place for me to do that. UNO also offers many great ways to get involved with your classmates and community. The beautiful campus also inspired me to attend UNO.

Why did you choose business as a major?

I considered many different majors throughout high school. I thought I wanted to be an engineer or work in the foreign relations department, but after taking a few business courses my junior year, I realized that business was perfect for me. I enjoy crunching numbers and figuring out what it takes to make a business run smoothly. There are also so many different opportunities for getting the career I desire when I am working in the business world.

What business concentration are you planning to pursue? Why?

I am currently planning on pursuing a degree in accounting. I understand the language of accounting well, and I am interested in all the different aspects of accounting. However, I also have interest in marketing. Marketing is an area where you have to get to know the people you are working with and the people your product or service is catering to. I thoroughly enjoy working with others and getting to know people.

What aspect of the Scholars Academy are you most looking forward to?

I am excited to be part of such a tight-knit community. It will be great to be able to work with other students who share some of the same goals and ambitions as I do. The Scholars Academy also presents the chance to get to know business professionals in the Omaha area and build relationships that can contribute to getting the job I desire after college. I am also excited to work on projects that benefit the community.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I spend most of my free time playing baseball. I love the sport and have always had a passion for the game. I play for my high school team in the spring and will play for my high school's legion team in the summer. When I am not playing or watching baseball, I am normally spending time with friends and family.

What is one thing we would be surprised to know about you?

One thing most people do not know about me is that I am a huge Shania Twain and Carrie Underwood fan. I attended Shania's concert this past fall in Lincoln, and I attended a Carrie concert a few years ago in Omaha. They were both awesome performances. Most people know that I enjoy old school and modern hip hop, along with some 80s rock, but few people know that I frequently jam out to Shania and Carrie in the car.
