We're excited you're considering the University of Nebraska Omaha! Before you become a Maverick, you will need to meet our first-year requirements.

The Board of Regents for the University of Nebraska established minimum admission requirements for first-time first year students who graduated from high school in 1997 or after. Prospective students should be aware that individual colleges may require additional credentials or have other requirements for specific programs.

It also should be noted that these requirements may not pertain to policies for transfer, readmission, or non-degree students or international applicants.

For students who graduated from high school prior to 1997, please refer to our Adult Student page for more information.

To gain admission to UNO, applicants must complete the core course requirement and one of the performance requirements.

Explore the areas below to learn about first-year admission requirements:

  • Core Course Requirement
  • Performance Requirement
  • Admission by Review
  • English Proficiency

Core Course Requirement

There are 16 units of required academic courses required for admission to the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). A unit is equal to one year of high school study or a semester or quarter of college coursework.

These required course units are within the academic disciplines of English, mathematics, social sciences, natural science, foreign language, and an additional academic requirement.

Visit the Core Course Requirement page to learn more about the following areas:

  • How courses are applied if you are enrolled in AP or IB courses
  • The requirements for those who have been homeschooled
  • The requirements for those who have a General Educational Diploma (GED)

Performance Requirement

In addition to meeting the above core course requirements, students applying for admission must meet one of the following:

  • Rank in the upper one-half of their graduating high school class
  • Or ACT composite score of 20 or higher or SAT equivalent
  • Or a 3.0 or higher GPA

Register for the ACT (School Code: 2464) or SAT (School Code: 6420).

NOTE: The December ACT/SAT test date is the last one accepted for fall semester scholarship consideration.

Admission by Review

If you are missing one or more of the requirements above, please see the admission by review section under Forms, Policies, and Conditions.

English Proficiency

Students whose native language/language of nurture is not English are required to demonstrate English proficiency (see the undergraduate catalog for minimum English proficiency/TOEFL requirements).

For more information, please see the English Proficiency Requirements section under Forms, Policies, and Conditions.
