Students in 11 states outside Nebraska are eligible for significantly reduced tuition rates through the University of Nebraska at Omaha's new OUR Tuition, or Omaha Urban Rate Tuition program.

Students in 11 states outside Nebraska are eligible for significantly reduced tuition rates through the University of Nebraska at Omaha's new OUR Tuition, or Omaha Urban Rate Tuition program.

A new program offered by the University of Nebraska at Omaha will significantly expand access to affordable higher education beyond the state’s borders, attract students to the Omaha area, and ultimately elevate Nebraska’s talent pool to fill workforce needs.

UNO’s Omaha Urban Rate Tuition program, or OUR Tuition, will enhance UNO’s overall recruitment efforts by providing many current and prospective students outside of Nebraska with affordable access to attend UNO. Learners who currently reside in or previously graduated from high school in one of 11 eligible states will have access to significantly reduced tuition rates. Eligible states include Colorado, Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The program will take effect beginning with the Fall 2023 semester.

“As an urban metropolitan university, it is our responsibility to explore additional avenues for learners to increase their social mobility—all while working to solve the workforce shortages facing our state,” Chancellor Joanne Li, Ph.D., CFA said. “Offering the OUR Tuition rate to students across the region enables out-of-state students to find affordability and opportunity in Nebraska.”

Through UNO’s OUR Tuition program, out-of-state learners in eligible states can attend UNO at a significantly reduced rate. Undergraduate students eligible for OUR Tuition will see their bills reduced to as low as $353 per credit hour depending on the program – a savings of $385 per credit hour compared to current prices. Graduate students eligible for OUR Tuition will see their bills reduced to as low as $512 per credit hour depending on the program — a savings of $308 per credit hour compared to current prices. Students residing in the state of Nebraska will continue to pay a lower tuition rate than OUR Tuition students.

"UNO’s OUR Tuition rate is often lower than or comparable in price to resident tuition rates charged by public four-year institutions in neighboring states."

Rich Klein, Ph.D., Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success

“UNO’s OUR Tuition rate is often lower than or comparable in price to resident tuition rates charged by public four-year institutions in neighboring states,” Rich Klein, Ph.D., Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success said. “OUR Tuition rate provides out-of-state students with an incentive to consider UNO, and Nebraska, as part of their college search.”

OUR Tuition is essentially a significant expansion of UNO’s Metropolitan Advantage Program (MAP) which has previously offered reduced tuition rates to residents in 11 counties of western Iowa. Students formerly eligible for MAP will automatically be transitioned to the OUR Tuition program at an identical rate. Likewise, out-of-state students from eligible states who are already attending UNO will automatically receive the reduced OUR Tuition price.

The program will take effect beginning with the Fall 2023 semester. For additional information on OUR Tuition, visit the UNO website.
