Dr. Roopa Venkatesh teaches an accounting class

The University of Nebraska at Omaha’s (UNO) College of Business Administration (CBA) is excited to announce that Roopa Venkatesh, Ph.D., CMA, an associate professor in the School of Accounting, has received the 2020 R. Lee Brummet Distinguished Award for Educators as well as the 2020 Champion Award from the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).

IMA’s R. Lee Brummet Distinguished Award for Educators is named for the former IMA president and recognizes an educator’s achievements in the area of promotion of management accounting and financial management.

The IMA Champion Award recognizes an IMA member who has demonstrated exceptional volunteerism and leadership skills that are beyond the call of duty in service to IMA consistent with their mission and global core values.

“I am very grateful and humbled to be selected to receive the 2020 R. Lee Brummet distinguished award as well as the 2020 Global IMA Champion Award,” says Venkatesh. “I am also grateful to my supportive colleagues at the School of Accounting and the College of Business Administration who have unquestionably strengthened and encouraged my research, teaching and service interests in the field of management accounting.”

Susan Eldridge, Ph.D., CPA, director of UNO’s School of Accounting, vouched for Venkatesh’s knowledge of management accounting and her dedication to her work and her students.

“Dr. Venkatesh’s passion for student learning and for the management accounting profession drives her teaching philosophy, her diverse and impactful scholarship and her significant global leadership accomplishments.”

Venkatesh was recognized for her accomplishments and dedication to the field of management accounting at the IMA’s annual membership meeting in June.
