Rebecca Hannagan

Rebecca Hannagan, Ph.D. has been named as the Director of the Office of Military and Veteran Services (OMVS) in the Division of Student Success. Rebecca assumed her new responsibilities on Monday, March 16.

The Office of Military and Veteran Services supports Student Success by fostering and encouraging a military community on campus and providing military-affiliated students with resources and services. As a result of the efforts of the dynamic and committed OMVS staff, UNO consistently ranks among the top universities for veterans, active duty members, and their families.

Rebecca most recently served as the Research and Integration Branch Head with the Directorate of Analytics and Performance Optimization for Headquarters Marine Corps in Arlington, Virginia. In this capacity, Rebecca worked on a cross-functional team that tackled the most challenging problems facing the Marine Corps (e.g., suicide, sexual assault, discrimination, retention, etc.) via integrated analytics and mixed methods research. The results of such efforts were used by senior leaders to make policy and programming decisions. Prior to government service, Rebecca supported the Marine Corps as a consultant in a number of capacities – from gender integration subject matter expert to training and education policy advisor. Her professional life before the Marine Corps was as Professor of Political Science at Northern Illinois University. Rebecca brings to the Office of Military and Veteran Services her combined experience serving students and supporting military personnel, with emphasis on data-driven approaches to the problems inherent in human and organizational dynamics.

Rebecca is a proud Maverick, having earned a Master of Science in Political Science at UNO, as well as a double graduate of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Arts and a PhD in Political Science. “I could not be happier to be back home at UNO,” she states. “I have been so grateful for my professional growth as a result of the truly inspiring experience I had as a student in the NU system. It is my privilege to be a part of OMVS and the Division of Student Success and to serve our military and veteran students and the broader University and Omaha communities.”

UNO is dedicated to serving those who served our country. We work to support UNO’s military-affiliated community by providing all service members, veterans, and their families with resources and services developed to help them succeed – whether it’s on campus, online, or overseas. We work to build relationships with alumni and community partners to support programming as well as with local employers to make sure we can help our students find good jobs when they graduate. To get in touch with OMVS contact them at unovets@unomaha.edu or call (402) 554-2349.
