Omaha – It was a special year for UNO in 2013 with countless events, achievements, special guest visits and national recognitions for students, faculty, staff and alumni.
One of the very first national recogntions for UNO in 2013 was an announcement by U.S. News and World Report that UNO's online Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree was ranked as one of the top 20 online bachelor's degrees in the nation, ahead of offerings from the University of Florida, George Washington University and the University of Missouri.
UNO's online BGS has its origins dating back to the 1940s and notable alumni including Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and Lt. Col. Robert Moore. UNO began offering the BGS through distance education in 1997 and through online courses in 2007.
“I'm extremely pleased with this recognition for our BGS degree program,” Chancellor John Christensen said. “This has been a long standing, high quality program at UNO, which the faculty and staff have admirably translated into an online form of teaching and learning that is providing important options and opportunities for students.”
