Drivers of electric vehicles now have additional charging station options on the UNO campus.
This summer, two new electric-vehicle (EV) charging stations, totaling four vehicle stalls, have been added on the Dodge Campus in Lot M, located by the Weber Fine Arts Building, and in the West Parking Garage just inside the south entrance.
Two other charging stations had previously existed on the first level of the Pacific Street Garage on the Scott Campus.
Users of the EV charging stations are required to sign up with ChargePoint either online or through their mobile app. Those utilizing the station and parking stalls must also have a valid UNO parking permit. Failure to observe these restrictions may result in a parking violation along with higher hourly rates for the stations.
Rates to use the charging stations are 50 cents every four hours; after four hours, the rate moves to $3 an hour. Parking Services asks that users limit their time at a charging station to no longer than four hours per day.
The use of EVs helps reduce the amount of carbon dioxide and other emissions that are harmful to the environment. To date, UNO’s EV stations have distributed 2.5 MWh and helped avoid putting nearly 1,200 kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, which is the equivalent of planting 30 trees and letting them grow for 10 years.
In addition to the EV charging stations, UNO provides a variety of sustainable transportation options, including the MavRIDE Bus Pass, a carpool permit program, a campus shuttle service, and several B-Cycle stations.
