Information Technology Services is migrating the University’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) service from Cisco’s AnyConnect client to Palo Alto’s GlobalProtect service. The new service is available now, and users are encouraged to make the switch prior to the June 30 migration date.
A VPN creates a secure connection to NU networks, allowing you to access restricted campus resources remotely, in the same manner as if your device was physically on campus. You may be required to use a VPN to access internal University computer systems, such as research workstations, file shares or web applications.
Beginning Monday, June 21, ITS will automatically install GlobalProtect on all ITS-managed devices that currently have Cisco AnyConnect installed, allowing a week for users to transition to GlobalProtect and verify functionality before the Cisco AnyConnect service ends at the end of the month. On July 9, the AnyConnect client will be automatically uninstalled from ITS-managed devices.
Installation
If you would like to download GlobalProtect now, or you’re working on a device that is not managed by ITS, you can find the new client in your computer’s Software Center (Windows) or Self Service (Mac).
Manual Installation
The client can also be installed manually:
- Visit https://nu-vpn.nebraska.edu.
-
After submitting your TrueYou credentials, a page will load giving you the option to download the VPN software by clicking on “GlobalProtect Agent” in the top right of the screen.
-
From that link, choose the software version needed for your device and install the client.
-
After install, open the GlobalProtect app and enter the portal address nu-vpn.nebraska.edu.
Additional Information
More information about using the VPN can be found on the NU ITS website. If you need any assistance, contact ITS at support@nebraska.edu.
