STEM TRAIL Center Grant Writing Workshops: "Tips for Navigating the Funding Agencies"
Noon - 1 P.M. on Zoom | Register (link sent after registration)
Moderator: Neal Grandgenett, Ph.D., Associate Dean of the UNO College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences; Associate Director of UNO’s STEM TRAIL Center.
Panel Presenters:
Tiffani Hix, Director of Sponsored Programs at UNO.
Sara Myers, Ph.D., UNO Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research and Creative Activity; professor in the UNO Department of Biomechanics; and Research Health Scientist at the Omaha Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center.
Abstract:
Navigating the funding landscapes in higher education can indeed be complex and challenging, but when done strategically, you can steadily build a personal external funding journey that helps your career to get to the places that you want to go. Understanding key features of the funding “landscapes” are important on your journey. For example, what do individual funding agencies value? What opportunities are represented by the various programs in NSF, NIH, DOE, DOD, and NASA? What do common terms that cross funding agencies actually mean, like match, summer salary, PI, CoPI, Senior Personnel, white paper, and external evaluation? This panel presentation will particularly highlight tips that will help in your ongoing and personal navigation of a range of grant opportunities, by understanding the grant funding terrain a bit better.
About the STEM TRAIL Center
The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Teaching, Research, and Inquiry-based Learning (TRAIL) Center is housed at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO).
As an administrative unit, it provides resources and materials to undergraduates, graduates, and faculty members at UNO and lifelong learners (reaching K-12 and adult learners) beyond. The Center does not control any curricula, as it is not an academic unit, but it does serve as a catalyst for course innovations as center affiliates work through colleges to study and implement curricular change.
The STEM TRAIL Center supports the community as well as other schools and universities. Specifically, the Center aims to provide a unified voice for STEM needs in the metropolitan area while providing a shared space for housing STEM professional development initiatives and coordinated financial support for STEM research initiatives.
