Access to the Strauss Performing Arts Center
The Strauss Performing Arts Center’s hours of operation are:
Monday – Friday: 7 A.M. – 10 P.M. (8A.M. – 5 P.M. staff office hours)
Saturday: 7 A.M. - 10 P.M.
Sunday: 10 A.M. – 10 P.M.
The doors are remotely locked at the appropriate time. During Holidays and Spring Break all doors for both buildings will be locked.
Strauss Performing Arts Center Security
Unlike other buildings on campus, the Strauss Performing Arts Center has extended hours to allow music majors time to practice, rehearse, and study. Unfortunately, this may create opportunities for theft, vandalism, and other crimes.
The protection of our music students and equipment is of utmost importance. Video surveillance is in use, but it is encouraged that students report any suspicious people or activities, especially after hours, to any building monitor, Administrative Assistant, or Public Safety. Crime prevention is the responsibility of everyone who uses the Strauss Performing Arts Center. The non-emergency telephone number of Public Safety is 402.554.2648. The emergency number (on-campus only) is 402.554.2911 or 911.

Concert/Recital Attire
Refer to the course outline to obtain information about the official dress code for all public performances by ensembles in the School of Music.
Locker Checkout and Use Policy
Lockers are available to music majors and students participating in ensembles sanctioned by the School of Music on a first-come, first-served basis. Lockers will be assigned by the Band Area Graduate Assistant located in SPAC 236. Keep your padlock locked at all times. If your lock is kept unlocked and it is stolen or lost, your deposit will be used for the purchased a new lock.
At the end of each school year, locker renewal and return will be coordinated by the Band Area Graduate Assistant. Failure to vacate lockers will result in removal of locks and contents by departmental staff. If you are leaving during the middle of the semester or term, please give the locker manager your lock before leaving. Return padlock to the Band Area Graduate Assistant at the end of the semester.
Please do not deface or damage school lockers with permanent marker, permanent stickers and posters, or physically abuse. Damage to UNO property may cause an increase in student activity fees. We ask you to not replace UNO combination locks with personal locking devices of any kind. If there is a need for a different lock please see the Band Area Graduate Assistant immediately.
Collaborative Pianists
At the beginning of every semester, the Coordinator of the Keyboard Area will submit a list of approved collaborative pianists to applied faculty. Collaborative pianists must be approved by the applied instructor and area coordinator. Check with your applied teacher for recommendations. Piano majors may be assigned to perform juries/recitals/lessons as part of their ensemble requirements (first-come, first-serve basis). Contact the keyboard area coordinator for more information. All collaborative pianists fees are the responsibility of the student and are not included in course tuition or fees.
Employment
The School of Music employs students in a variety of positions. Students who qualify for work-study employment should contact the Operations Manager. The School recognizes that students may have to work in order to finance their education.
Music Stands
Music stands are provided in the practice and rehearsal rooms. They are also color-coded by area. Students should not remove stands unless instructed to by a faculty member, in which case the students are asked to return the stands to the appropriate room immediately after use.
Removing a School of Music stand from the building for personal use constitutes theft of state property and will result in disciplinary action.
Lost and Found
Check with the Operations Manager about items that are missing. Lost keys, ID’s, electronics, etc. will be turned over to UPD at the end of each week. All clothing, music, notebooks, etc. items found are retained for one semester before they are discarded.
Bulletin Boards
Bulletin boards within the Strauss Performing Arts Center are a convenient and necessary means of communication for students, faculty, and the departmental office. Students should become familiar with the boards and their organization so that they can take advantage of the information available there and in turn keep informed of deadlines and current events.
Official announcements are posted on the appropriate boards. It is the responsibility of the student to check these boards on a regular basis. Students wishing to post on the boards must submit these materials to the Operations Manager. Materials may be posted for a period not to exceed 30 days unless otherwise specified Materials not approved by the School of Music, including walls, windows or other spaces within the Performing Arts Center (except for materials posted by instructors on the door of their offices), will be removed.
