Kaitlin Carlson, Academic Advisor in the UNO College of Business Administration (CBA), was recently named the “Advisor of the Month” by the Academic Advising Council (AAC) for the month of September.

The award was presented to Carlson at the September Academic Advising Council meeting.

Carlson’s nominators said, “Kaitlin is the epitome of a team player. As her colleague, I have watched her countless times see her teammates in need and step in to help others. She is creative in planning for students, and they really enjoy working with her! I am so thankful to have Kaitlin as a colleague and have been so thankful for her encouragement, care, creative problem solving, and hilarious personality!”

“Kaitlin is an exemplary model of meeting students where they are and taking the extra step to build rapport and trust. She takes time to get to know her students, what motivates them, and what is going on in their lives not just to best serve them academically, but to support them as individuals on a path of self-discovery. This makes her an excellent point-person for business pathway students who often navigate complex academic circumstances. Beyond her service to students, Kaitlin is the first to volunteer to help. She consistently shows up for her colleagues when we have a question or need help, and she takes on additional service to the university through teaching roles (BSAD 1100) and other service committees (UNO-MCC conference). I wholeheartedly support her nomination for Advisor of the Month!”

“Kaitlin goes above and beyond to meet the needs of students, help them navigate the complexity of higher education, is a subject matter expert, and does it all with a huge smile!”

“Kaitlin is great with her students. She goes above and beyond to make sure they are taken care of. She is often the first to volunteer for any extra duties or helping her co-workers. It is obvious in her work that she really cares about her students and staff at UNO. Kaitlin is teaching a section of BSAD 1100 this semester. She is also going to be advising all the DCS Business Pathway students. In the short time Kaitlin has been in advising for CBA she has made a big impact.”

For being selected as the AAC Advisor of the Month, Carlson will receive a certificate and gift card.
