Biography

Arthur Diamond has graduate degrees in philosophy and in economics from the University of Chicago. His Openness to Creative Destruction: Sustaining Innovative Dynamism was published by the Oxford University Press on June 3, 2019. He has been on the faculty at The Ohio State University and is now Professor of Economics at the UNO College of Business Administration, where he has been a recipient of the UNO Award for Distinguished Research or Creative Activity and the UNO Department of Economics "Outstanding Economics Graduate Teacher" award. His past research has appeared in journals such as Science, Economic Inquiry, Econ Journal Watch, Prometheus, History of Political Economy, The Journal of Human Resources, Research Policy, Economics of Innovation and New Technology, Reason Papers, The Independent Review, and The Review of Austrian Economics. His nonacademic writings include the script for "Frank Knight and the Chicago School," and postings on artdiamondblog.com. Among his recent published articles are: "The Epistemology of Entrepreneurship" and "Seeking the Patent Truth: Patents Can Provide Justice and Funding for Inventors."

Teaching Interests

Economics of Entrepreneurship, Economics of Technology, Economics of Science, Price Theory, Managerial Economics, Labor Economics, History of Economic Thought, Research Methods.

Research Interests

Arthur Diamond's current research interests include the economics of innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology. His past research interests included the reward structure of science and technological innovation's impact on economic progress. He has also done research in the history of economic thought and in labor economics.

Service Summary

For many years Arthur Diamond was the Graduate Adviser of the Department of Economics. At the university level, he served many years on the UNO Graduate Council, including a period chairing Committee A. He served many years on the UNO Faculty Senate, including service as Chair of the Rules Committee. He has served on many committees and councils of the College of Business Administration, most recently serving for several terms of the Strategic Planning Council. Diamond is a member of many professional organizations, including being a founding member of the International Network for Economic Method; and being a founding member of the World Interdisciplinary Network for Institutional Research. Diamond is a member of the Heritage Foundation Resource Bank, the Intercollegiate Studies Institute Speaker's Bureau, and the Foundation for Economic Education Faculty Network. He also is a Senior Fellow at the American Institute for Economic Research.
