Before You Go: Academic Credit
Students are able to earn academic credit from all UNO approved study abroad programs. In order to ensure that you will earn credit abroad, take these necessary steps prior to departure:
Meet with your academic advisor
Prior to selecting courses abroad, you should be aware of what courses you need to complete your degree program at UNO. Your academic advisor will be able to help you determine the kinds of classes that will be beneficial for you.
Complete a Course Approval Form
The Course Approval Form allows you to see what the courses you take abroad will be transferred as to UNO. You must fill out all of the specific courses that you might be interested in taking at your foreign host institution, print off their syllabi and descriptions and take them to the corresponding UNO departments for approval. The person who approves your course will write the name, course number, and total number of credit hours of the UNO class that it corresponds to and sign off on its transfer. The form needs to be given to the Education Abroad Office in ASH 220 prior to your departure.
We recommend that you seek approval for all courses that interest you so that if you need to swap courses abroad, you will have already confirmed that they will transfer for UNO credit. In the event that you take a course abroad that you did not include on your Course Approval Form, we can work with you while you are still abroad to get approval for its transfer.
No courses can be transferred from abroad for credit without a fully completed Course Approval Form.
Your transfer credit will be posted once the Education Abroad Office receives your official transcript from the foreign institution. Learn more about study abroad transcripts here.
