International Online Courses
Why take an international course online?
With all summer 2020 courses moving online, this is your opportunity to do something new and learn about a subject from an international perspective. These courses are taught by professors from around the world on study abroad programs, and for the first time ever they are being offered in an online format. You can explore a concept from the point of view of a country you'd like to visit someday, and broaden your understanding of your field of study.
Can I use financial aid to help pay for these courses?
Everyone’s aid package is different, but the one thing that remains the same for all students is that you must be earning academic credit to be eligible for financial aid. If you receive private scholarships, federal or state grants, or loans in the summer, you can generally use them towards these online study abroad courses. If you have a UNO tuition scholarship, it can only be applied towards UNO tuition, not tuition to an outside organization or university. Talk to the Office of Financial Support and Scholarships to learn more about your summer aid package, and how it is able to be applied.
What is the cost per course?
Each 3-credit course is $750. This is great news because it is competitively priced to match tuition and fee rates you’re used to. Students will also be charged a discounted $100 Education Abroad Admin cost instead of the usual $150 for summer programs, regardless of whether they choose to take 3-credits or 6-credits. This will cover assistance with the application, including course approval and financial support forms, advising appointments, and the processing of the transcript for transfer to UNO.
How do I move forward if I think an international online course is right for me?
You should contact the UNO Education Abroad Office as soon as possible to get the ball rolling. CIEE courses have a deadline of May 1 for applications, while CAPA offers later deadlines of May 12 and June 6.
You should also explore the links below, which will take you to the summer online sessions pages for CAPA and CIEE. You'll find each course title is linked directly to the course syllabus, so you can get a clear idea on what the course will cover. UNO Education Abroad will help you to reach out to the right people on campus to review your selected classes for UNO equivalencies.
What courses can I take?
You can choose courses from one of our two global partners*:
CAPA: The Global Education Network
