Emergencies
If you are in an emergency, call the local emergency number immediately. After notifying local emergency services and getting yourself out of immediate danger, call your city's emergency line for assistance.
After an emergency has occurred, please contact the Education Abroad office as soon as possible at +1 (402) 554-3168. We will need your information, your location and program, and details of what has happened. Our regular business hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST. If you need assistance outside of business hours, you will be redirected to UNO Public Safety, who can put you in touch with the after-hours emergency contact.
Medical emergencies
If you are facing a medical emergency, seek medical attention as soon as possible. You will need to notify UnitedHealthcare Global Insurance(UHCG) as soon as possible. All students have purchased this insurance before travel through Education Abroad.
UnitedHealthcare Global has a dedicated team of professionals who are available to support University of Nebraska travelers. If you experience an emergency while traveling abroad, or if you have questions about doctors, hospitals, or resources in the areas where you will be traveling, contact UHCG’s Emergency Response Center at +1 (800) 527-0218. UHCG has a global network of providers with the ability to directly bill to the insurance provider. If you need support, your first step is to contact UHCG.
Major events
If a major event has occurred that could affect your safety (natural disaster, public attack, etc.), please check in with the Education Abroad Office as soon as possible. UHCG insurance holders have evacuation coverage in the event of an eligible political crisis or natural disaster.
Remember that there is a difference between a true emergency and a somewhat urgent situation. Please do not use emergency numbers if you are not in danger, can effectively manage the situation without assistance, or can wait until business hours to contact the Education Abroad Office.
