Scholarships are an excellent way to help defray the cost of a study abroad program.

UNO Scholarships

UNO tuition scholarships can be used to help defray the cost of Exchange and Global Course programs. Check with your scholarship coordinator to confirm that your funds can be applied to your specific program. 1-2 foreign language Global Courses each year include host university tuition, and are not compatible with UNO tuition scholarships.

UNO Education Abroad Scholarships

Occasionally the Education Abroad Office has scholarship funding available. Please contact the Education Abroad Office.

Typical term offerings are:

Barbara and Herbert Egerer Award, non-location/major-specific- help us grow this scholarship fund!
Mal & Millie Hansen Award, for international studies majors
Karly Foland Scholarship, for study abroad in a non-Western country
Sieu Mei Tu Study in Asia Scholarship, for study abroad in an Asian country

UNO - AAUP

The UNO American Association of University Professors (UNO-AAUP) confers two student scholarships annually to honor the memories of two of the former union leaders. The Donald Greer Academic Travel Memorial Scholarship of $1000 is conferred to a UNO undergraduate or graduate student engaging in a study abroad OR domestic study away program. Students can find more information and apply here.

Provider-Specific Scholarships

Most affiliate providers offer a variety of scholarships for students who are participating in one of their programs. Check your third-party provider’s website for a current list of available scholarships.

Additional Study Abroad Scholarships

There are many general study abroad scholarships available. Check with local clubs and organizations to see if they offer scholarships and look into your eligibility for these scholarship programs:

The Fund For Education Abroad -Apply for several study abroad scholarships through one application

Critical Language Scholarship -Fully funded program for studying critical foreign languages worldwide

NSEP Boren Scholarship -For serious language study and those planning to work in U.S. national security

Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship -Highly recommended for students who are Pell Grant Eligible to apply!

Going Scholarship -The Going Study Abroad Scholarship is open to any citizen and/or resident of the United States (and its territories and possessions) who is enrolled full-time at an accredited institution of higher learning.

Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship -Study abroad grants for high achieving students at a Phi Kappa Phi institution.

Location Specific Scholarships

Ernst Mach Grant -This monthly stipend is available for students studying at an Austrian university of applied sciences, such as our partner Management Center Innsbruck (MCI).

DAAD Scholarship -Scholarships to study in Germany

Study in Lithuania Scholarship - Supports a semester studying in Lithuania

Freeman-ASIA -Funding to study in a variety of countries throughout Asia

Norden Club Scholarship -Award to support a student who lives within 100 miles of Lincoln, NE and will study abroad in Scandinavia (Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway, or Sweden)

JASSO and MEXT -These Japanese government sponsored scholarships are generally offered directly through partner institutions in Japan, though students can also apply independently for the MEXT scholarship.

Bridging Scholarships -Funding for U.S. undergraduates to study abroad in Japan.

UNO Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships

The Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships serves any students at UNO who are interested in applying for these prestigious opportunities. All the awards differ widely, so there are opportunities if you want to serve your country/government, spend time abroad, or earn a graduate degree. Search their website for the full list.
