Students are able to earn academic credit from all UNO approved study abroad programs. In order to ensure that you will earn credit abroad, take these necessary steps prior to departure.

Meet with Your Academic Advisor

Prior to selecting courses abroad, you should be aware of what courses you need to complete your degree program at UNO. Your academic adviser will be able to help you determine the kinds of classes that will be beneficial for you.

Gather Course Approvals

In MAP you will find all the UNO forms and documents related to study abroad, including one called 'My Course Equivalencies'. Once you've been accepted to a program and clicked the commit button in the portal, all your forms will appear, inlcuding this one. 'My Course Equivalencies' will help you identify who can review and approve your study abroad courses for UNO equivalencies, and how to request those approvals so you know your study abroad courses will transfer back to your degree plan. Two downloadable email templates are provided that you can edit, copy and paste to send to your advisors and professors to help make course approval a smooth process.

We recommend that you seek approval for all courses that interest you so that if you need to swap courses abroad, you will have already confirmed that they will transfer for UNO credit. In the event that you take a course that you did not include initially, we can work with you while you are abroad to get approval for its transfer.

No courses can be transferred from abroad for credit until you have UNO approval for every course on your host university transcript. We must post all transfer courses for a term at the same time.

How do I Know What my Grades Will be?

The WES Country Resources webpage can be used as a guideline for how your host country grades will be translated to U.S. values. The grading scales provided by WES do not guarentee your grades will translate as listed, but they are a helpful guide for what you may be able to expect.
