Become an Intern - Applications Open September 4th!
Internship applications for the Spring 2027 semester will open on September 4th, 2026.
Start your application and Pre-Internship Checklist Today!
Follow this step by step guide to become an HIA Funded Intern:
- Begin by completing the Student Internship Interest Form.
- Meet with your academic advisor, faculty mentors, and career services resources.
- Complete your Canvas Pre-Internship Checklist. Filling out the Interest Form will add you to this Canvas group.
- Apply to at least 3 positions on the Internship Catalog by 11:59 PM on November 6th.
- Receive your Internship Notification and Acceptance the week of December 1st.
- Sign Student Agreement.
- Start your internship!

Each credit-bearing Humanities in Action internship offers hands-on, resume-building experience through placement with a community partner. As an intern, you'll work with a mentor, contribute to real projects and apply classroom learning while developing transferable skills.
Are you eligible?
- Be at least at Sophomore standing (27+ credits).
- Be an undergraduate student with a major in one of the following:
- BA in Studio Art and Art History
- Black Studies
- English
- History
- Interdisciplinary Studies (with humanities focus)
- International Studies (with a Global Religious Studies concentration)
- Latin/Latin American Studies
- Medical Humanities
- Philosophy
- Religious Studies
- Women’s and Gender Studies
- World Languages & Literature
- Commit to a consistent internship schedule not to exceed 150 hrs in a single semester.
- Participate in Humanities Internship Symposium and the end-of-semester showcase.
- Enroll in one of the following courses concurrently: ART 4530, ENGL 4800, HIST 4920, HUMN 4900, LLS 4900, MEDH 4990, RELI 4000, SPAN 4800, WLL 4800.

About Us
Humanities in Action: The Maverick Internship Program is a cross-college initiative designed to expand access to paid, credit-bearing internship opportunities for humanities majors. This initiative is generously supported by the Mellon Foundation and implemented by the University of Nebraska Omaha's College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Communication, Fine Arts, and Media.
At least 120 internships are funded annually through the program.
