Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art

Studio Art students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts degree take different levels of courses in their chosen concentration after completing the Core I Foundation courses.

Required elective hours encourage students to explore courses in other mediums, art history, or complementary disciplines. In the final semester of their degree students exhibit their art at the UNO Art Gallery.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art

A professional degree, students interested in pursuing an advanced degree or a career as an artist should select this option. Admittance into the BFA program is dependent upon a faculty portfolio review.

Through the production of a body of work students explore and develop the form and content of their personal artistic vision. The degree culminates in a thesis exhibition in the UNO Art Gallery.

Concentrations

Students seeking both B.A. and BFA degrees in Studio Art can choose from the following concentrations:

  • Two Dimensional Art: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking
  • Three Dimensional Art: Book Arts, Ceramics, Sculpture
  • Media Arts: Intermedia and Digital Art, Game Design
  • Graphic Design: 2D Design, 3D Design, Video Art, Computer Generated Imagery (CGI)
  • Illustration

Art History

Bachelor of Arts in Art History

Students pursuing an Art History degree study the relationships between cultures and their artistic traditions, learn about artists and their creative processes, and obtain the methods to analyze and interpret art from around the world. Complementing survey and period courses are topical courses from the History of Fashion to LatinX Art to Pop Antiquity.

Art History students gain critical thinking, communication, research, and writing skills which help them to succeed post-graduation in a variety of career paths.

Art Education

Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art with K-12 Certification

The B.A. in Studio Art with K-12 Certification gives students the opportunity to teach art at an elementary and secondary level. Students will earn a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art in addition to several classes through the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences for a well-rounded foundation of learning.

Art Education students are qualified to pursue graduate-level work in both Art Education and Education programs.
