Scholarships Available for Undergraduate Students
Merit Scholarships - Awarded Based on Academic Achievement
The Robert P. Houston Criminology and Criminal Justice Scholarship awards up to $2,000 to a SCCJ undergraduate student based on merit. Preference is given to students interested in pursuing a career in corrections. Open to students attending either the Omaha or Lincoln campus.
The Richard J.A. Kreulen Memorial SCCJ Scholarship awards up to $1,200 to a SCCJ undergraduate based on merit. Open to students attending either the Omaha or Lincoln campus.
The Jeff Marshall Scholarship Fund awards up to $750 for a full-time student with junior or senior standing admitted to the criminology and criminal justice program, with an expressed desire to work in a public service sector. Candidates must exhibit academic growth and future potential. Only open to students attending the Lincoln campus.
The UNO/UNL Criminal Justice Education Scholarship awards scholarships based on merit to both undergraduate and/or graduate students majoring in criminal justice. Multiple awards of up to $2,000 may be available. Open to students attending either the Omaha or Lincoln campus.
The Webb Family Scholarship awards up to $2,000 to a SCCJ undergraduate entering his/her senior year based on merit. Preference is given to students interested in pursuing a master's degree in criminology and criminal justice. Open to students attending either the Omaha or Lincoln campus.
Needs Based Scholarships - Awarded Based on Financial Consideration
The Deputy Chief Monroe Coleman Scholarship awards up to $1,000 to a SCCJ undergraduate interested in law enforcement. Award consideration is based on financial need. Only open to students attending the Omaha campus.
The Douglas Family Scholarship Fund awards up to $2,000 for students admitted to the undergraduate criminology and criminal justice program who are of junior or senior standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Award recipient must have graduated from a Nebraska high school. Preference may be given to students with demonstrated financial need. Only open to students attending the Lincoln campus.
The Len and Ann Freeman Memorial Scholarship is a needs based scholarship that awards up to $3,000 to a SCCJ undergraduate participating in the London Study Abroad Program. Open to students attending either the Omaha or Lincoln campus.
The William Wakefield Student Support Scholarship is a needs based scholarship that awards up to $500 to a SCCJ undergraduate participating in the London Study Abroad Program. Multiple awards may be given. Open to students attending either the Omaha or Lincoln campus.
Service Scholarships - Awarded Based on Community Service
The Joe Carroll Scholarship awards up to $1,000 to an outstanding Lincoln police officer that has reached senior standing by the time of award. Only open to students attending the Lincoln campus.
The Detective Kerry Oroczo First Responder Scholarship awards up to $1,000 to a SCCJ junior or senior with a record of of community service and an interest in pursuing a career as a first responder (local, state or federal law enforcement, fire or EMT). Preference is given to a student based on financial need and a minimum GPA of 2.5. Open to students attending either the Omaha or Lincoln campus.
The Nebraska Juvenile Justice Association Scholarship Award provides a $500 scholarship to an outstanding junior or senior attending any Nebraska college or university, working toward a career in juvenile justice. Applicants are asked to fill out a form describing work experience in the field, volunteer/community service experience, professional growth and development, and career goals. Applications are reviewed and a recipient is selected by the NJJA Board. The scholarship is presented during the annual conference awards luncheon. Scholarship winners meet with the NJJA Board for networking opportunities. For more information visit http://njja.org/
Law Enforcement Tuition Waiver -- A bill passed by legislators in 2016 gives Nebraska law enforcement officers a 30% tuition waiver at any Nebraska state university, state college or community college. To qualify, an officer must maintain satisfactory job performance, meet all admission requirements of the post secondary institution and pursue an associate or baccalaureate degree related to his/her career in law enforcement.
