Faculty Honors Convocation is a cornerstone of the university's commitment to recognizing and celebrating the remarkable achievements of its educators. Faculty members from diverse disciplines will be honored at this annual event that shines a spotlight on exceptional teaching, groundbreaking research, innovative approaches, and unwavering dedication to student growth.

On the evening of September 28, 2023, the UNO community will honor a distinguished cohort of faculty members. These educators will be honored in several categories, each highlighting a unique aspect of their contributions to academia and society.

The following faculty will be recognized at Faculty Honors Convocation with campus level awards:

  • Award for Distinguished Research or Creative Activity: Mark Gilbert, Associate Professor of Art and Art History, School of the Arts
  • Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award: Angela Eikenberry, Professor, School of Public Administration
  • Outstanding Faculty Service Learning Award: Shannon Cummins, Associate Professor of Marketing and Entrepreneurship
  • Excellence in Teaching Award: Song-Young Park, Associate Professor, School of Health and Kinesiology
  • Excellence in Part-time Teaching Award: Coral Hannah, Instructor, Department of Teacher Education
  • Faculty Excellence in Engagement Award: Jonathan Santo, Professor, Department of Psychology

In addition to campus awards, the UNO Alumni Association will present Alumni Outstanding Teaching Awards to faculty identified as outstanding teachers by their colleges. These awards honor faculty members who have demonstrated exceptional teaching skills and a deep commitment to their student's success. Established in 1997, these awards have since recognized over 200 faculty members.

Faculty Honors Convocation also shines a light on faculty members who have been awarded named and endowed chairs and professorships. These prestigious positions not only recognize academic excellence but also celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to their respective fields.

Academic Affairs is coordinating an effort to spotlight the outstanding achievements of the distinguished faculty at UNO. In the coming weeks, watch for additional news articles that showcase the remarkable accomplishments of the campus-wide award recipients.
