The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Biomechanics and Health & Kinesiology joint Ph.D. program is now in the same company as some of the nation’s top research universities.
What’s new: UNO’s doctoral program in biomechanics and kinesiology ranked No. 10 in the nation in the National Academy of Kinesiology’s (NAK) 2026 Doctoral Program Evaluation unadjusted rankings.
Why it matters: The evaluation compared 39 participating U.S. doctoral programs using data from 2023 through 2025. Other programs in the top 10 include:
- Florida State University
- University of Texas at Austin
- University of Wisconsin-Madison
- University of Georgia
- Penn State University
Zoom in: Faculty and students in the joint Ph.D. program in the Department of Biomechanics and Department of Health & Kinesiology work at the intersection of cardiovascular biomechanics, human movement, health, and performance, advancing interdisciplinary research to understand human physiology, prevent and treat disease, and improve quality of life.
- NAK's ranking reflects the overall scale of activity taking place across a program, including research production, funding, student scholarship, student support, and career outcomes.
- UNO rose to No. 10 in the 2026 unadjusted ranking after placing No. 20 in the previous evaluation.
The numbers:
- Federal funding: 92nd percentile
- Internal funding: 92nd percentile
- Doctoral student journal Articles: 82nd percentile
- Students receiving full support: 88th percentile
