UNO College of Public Affairs and Community Service (CPACS)

Students looking for exceptional education in public affairs will find just that at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) College of Public Affairs and Community Service (CPACS) according to the new 2024 “Best Graduate Schools Rankings” from U.S. News and World Report.

The new rankings place UNO’s overall public administration programming tied at No. 26 in the nation. Several specialty public administration areas were also ranked highly.

  • Public Finance and Budgeting No. 6
  • Local Government No. 11
  • Nonprofit Management No. 12
  • Public Management tied for No. 31

Also notable: The Grace Abbott School of Social Work’s graduate programming tied at No. 95, the College of Business Administration’s part-time MBA at No. 87, Computer Science tied at No. 163 and Speech-Language Pathology tied at No. 66.

CPACS Dean John Bartle, Ph.D., expressed satisfaction with UNO's consistent recognition, stating, "UNO's School of Public Administration consistently upholds its high position, ranking with renowned institutions such as Texas A&M, University of Kansas, University of Maryland and University of Kentucky. Our faculty's profound expertise and our innovative learning atmosphere draw students worldwide, reaffirming our leadership in the domain and bolstering our reputation."

Craig Maher, Ph.D., Director of the School of Public Administration, attributes these accolades to the dedication of faculty, staff, and students, as well as the university's support. “Our programs offer unparalleled quality and support, equipping students with the skills needed to tackle today’s challenges effectively,” Maher remarked.

Graduate Studies Dean Juan Casas, Ph.D., said “Once again, the highly ranked programs within CPACS remain a point of pride for the campus. These are programs of high quality and rigor that offer world class training in a supportive, student-centered environment that prepares students well to meet their career objectives and the challenges of today’s world. The graduates of these programs thrive professionally and make a positive impact in their community. Year after year, UNO continues to lead the way in graduate education. We are immensely proud of the faculty, staff, and students in our programs across the campus. Congratulations to CPACS and all the UNO programs recognized in the latest U.S. News and World Report,” he said.

The 2024 “Best Graduate Schools Rankings” follow U.S. News and World Report’s 2024 online program rankings, which named UNO’s online criminology and criminal justice graduate program among the top 10 programs of its kind. That program is also housed within CPACS.

Founded in 1972, CPACS is the only college in the University of Nebraska system dedicated entirely to public affairs and civic engagement. As such, it serves a statewide mission of coupling quality education with professional services for any students looking to improve their communities.
