UNO is proud to announce that it has been recognized as one of the healthiest places to work by the American Heart Association for the third year in a row. This year UNO was awarded the Workplace Health Achievement Bronze Award.
Known as the American Heart Association Workplace Health Solution Award, recipients are scored through the Workplace Health Achievement Index, which is based on best practices that comprehensively evaluate the culture, structure, processes and outcomes of a workplace’s health program.
The seven structure-and-performance measures each workplace is evaluated on are in the areas of:
- Leadership
- Policies and Environment
- Communications
- Programs
- Engagement
- Partnerships and
- Reporting Outcomes
UNO has previously received a Health Champion Award from the American Diabetes Association, and the Nebraska Governor’s Wellness Award from Governor Pete Ricketts.
Esther Scarpello, UNO’s Benefits Manager, and Zachary McGee, Campus Recreation Assistant Director for Wellness and Aquatics, have both been instrumental in leading the efforts to submit the award applications.
"We are excited to be recognized by the American Heart Association with this award especially with the additional challenges we had to face the past year that called for unique ways to continue to promote health and wellness while employees were working remotely and dealing with the pandemic," Scarpello said."This is truly a reflection of the hard work, collaboration, and commitment our entire campus has to supporting wellness resources and education."
Opportunities to improve employee’s eight dimensions of wellness can be found here.
Employees are also encouraged to seek out other health and fitness opportunities through Campus Recreation; such as memberships, fitness classes, injury prevention and more.
