This week, dozens of new faces have arrived on the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) campus as the next generation of educators in the Maverick family.
Ahead of a new fall semester beginning on Monday, Aug. 26, faculty from each of UNO's six colleges, graduate studies program and UNO Libraries are meeting to learn more about what makes UNO the premier metropolitan university in the region.
"Each new semester is a fantastic opportunity to step back and reaffirm our commitment to our students and to each other," UNO Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., said. "I am excited to have such a great group of faculty join in that commitment as new members of our Maverick family."
Sacha Kopp, Ph.D., senior vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, said that while many faculty are just beginning their journey, it is the first step in a lifelong commitment to the Maverick mission.
"Great students require great faculty and I truly believe that is what we have here at UNO. Just as we support our students, we are dedicated to nurturing the success and growth of our faculty as they find new and exciting ways to bring their expertise into the classroom and share that expertise through game-changing research and service in the community."
All new faculty at UNO are also encouraged to make sure of the many faculty resources available on campus, including:
Division of Academic Affairs - A home for faculty to access information about curriculum development; important dates; assessment and review policies; important forms and documents; and ways to be recognized through honors and awards.
Center for Faculty Excellence - A resource for all faculty, offering training, faculty development and course improvement. Educational sessions and events happen throughout the year.
Office of Research and Creative Activity - Providing leadership for all faculty as they develop research programs and creative collaboration opportunities.
Faculty Senate - The elected representative body for all UNO faculty. Public meetings are held monthly on campus.
American Association of University Professors - UNO's chapter of the national nonprofit supporting faculty and other academic professionals.
Faculty are also encouraged to share their important news, updates and projects through their respective college communicators and the Office of University Communications.
