Service Learning Research Publication Opportunities

Academic Exchange Quarterly: Presents ideas, research, and methods of learning to effective instruction and learning regardless of level or subject.


Community Works Journal: Online Magazine for Educators: Showcases innovative educational strategies, practices, and curriculum that involve teachers and students in meaningful work within their communities.


International Journal for Service Learning in Engineering: The Journal welcomes manuscripts based on original work with a specific focus or implication for service learning in engineering, humanitarian engineering, and social entrepreneurship, or related service learning pedagogy.


International Journal of Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement: Peer-reviewed online journal dedicated to the publication of high-quality research focused on service-learning, campus-community engagement, and the promotion of active and effective citizenship through education.


International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education: Peer-reviewed electronic journal which provides a forum for higher education faculty, staff, administrators, researchers, and students who are interested in improving post-secondary instruction. The IJTLHE provides broad coverage of higher education pedagogy and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) across diverse content areas, educational institutions, and levels of instructional expertise. The specific emphasis of IJTLHE is the dissemination of knowledge for improving higher education pedagogy.


Journal of Community Practice: Discusses the development, debate, and exchange of ideas on community practice in research, theory development, intervention models, curriculum development, and teaching.


Journal of Critical Scholarship on Higher Education and Student Affairs: JCSHESA, a student-run, peer-reviewed journal, provides a place for critical scholarship, practice, and activism that looks at higher education and student affairs. The journal strives to provide meaningful, purposeful, and actionable knowledge that can effect change on and with campus and community.


Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement: Serves as the premier peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal to advance theory and practice related to all forms of outreach and engagement between higher education institutions and communities.


Journal of Learning in Higher Education: Strives to provide an outlet for research that is frequently stated as important but often undervalued. It intends to push the frontiers of knowledge concerning how we teach, learning, and administer academic programs.


Journal of Public Scholarship in Higher Education: Aims to advance the status and prospects for publicly engaged teaching and research in the academy by showcasing the new disciplinary and/or pedagogical knowledge generated by engagement with the community.


Journal of Service-Learning in Higher Education: Online, international, peer-reviewed journal for the dissemination of original research regarding effective institutional-community partnerships.


Journal of Social Work Education: Contains research articles on education in the fields of social work knowledge and social welfare, focusing on developments, innovations, and problems pertaining to social work education at the undergraduate, masters and postgraduate levels.


Metropolitan Universities Journal: Published by Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) on behalf of the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU). Each themed issue reports in-depth on theoretical and applied aspects affecting colleges and universities. Articles are contributed by top scholars and administrators who bring diverse institutional perspectives to their ideas.


Michigan Journal of Community Service-Learning: Articles written by faculty and service-learning educators on research, theory, pedagogy, and issues pertinent to the service-learning community.


Partnerships: A Journal of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement: Peer-reviewed articles focus on how theories and practices can inform and improve partnerships, connections, and collaborations. Studies co-authored by faculty, students, and/or community partners; or examining practices across disciplines or campuses; or exploring international networks are all encouraged.


Teaching & Learning Inquiry (TLI): TLI is the flagship publication of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSoTL). It publishes insightful research, theory, commentary, and other scholarly works that document or facilitate investigations of teaching and learning in higher education.

Barbara A. Holland Collection for Service Learning & Civic Engagement

The Barbara A. Holland collection for Service Learning and Community Engagement (SLCE) is both uniquely retrospective and comprehensive, offering the worlds largest physical collection in the field. This internationally important collection features digital derivatives of materials originally collected by the National Service Learning Clearinghouse (NSLC) including: engagement research in higher education, K-12 schools, the community-based organization sector and Tribal Nations.

DigitalCommons@UNO is a digital showcase of the research and scholarly output of the members of the University of Nebraska Omaha community. The DigitalCommons@UNO repository is administered by the Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Library.
