This fall marks the launch of a unified Canvas learning environment across all University of Nebraska System campuses. This is an important milestone in creating a more convenient, connected and intuitive experience for faculty and students.

This university-wide Canvas instance offers all the same great Canvas features you are already familiar with as a faculty member, while also making it easier for students and faculty to engage with all their courses in a single place. This particularly benefits the faculty, students and academic leaders who regularly teach, learn or lead across multiple NU System campuses.

Read on for information just for faculty. Visit the student article for student updates.

What Actions Should Faculty Take at This Time?

  • Bookmark canvas.nebraska.edu as the login portal you and your students should be using from this point forward. All fall course shells are ready for use here, as well as copies of the last two years of your prior courses for your convenience. If you would like to reference additional prior courses beyond the last two years, you will be able to do so by following the links to legacy Canvas instance logins, which are also listed on the canvas.nebraska.edu site.

  • Let your students know how you plan to use Canvas and consider including the canvas.nebraska.edu link in your syllabus and welcome messaging to your students. A helpful step-by-step handout about fall 2026 Canvas changes for students is available at canvas.nebraska.edu/student-resources – this may be a good resource for you to share with your students, as well.

  • If you use the Canvas Teacher app regularly in your teaching, make sure that you connect it to the correct instance of Canvas. To do so, first open the Canvas Teacher app and tap the menu (three bars in the top left). Next, tap “change user” or “logout.” Then, search “University of Nebraska” and login with your TrueYou  credentials. That’s all it takes!

  • Be sure to update your notifications in the new instance of Canvas to choose how and when you want to receive updates about activities in your Canvas courses. To do so, log into the new instance of Canvas, click the Account icon (circle) and choose “Notifications.” From there, set your notification preferences, click save and you’re all set!

Canvas Support for Faculty

As a faculty member, if you need assistance in using Canvas at any point during the semester, an enhanced support model specifically for faculty has been created with the following options:

  • A live drop-in virtual support room (via Zoom) with dedicated ITS staff, which is available to all faculty Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. To join this support room with a question about Canvas or integrated tools, log into the new instance of Canvas at canvas.nebraska.edu, click help, and choose “Drop-In Support.”

  • Email the ITS Canvas support team anytime at its-lmsteam@nebraska.edu.
