Starting July 1, 2026, the student health fee will include five covered office visits at the Nebraska Medicine UNO Health Center per academic year. After five visits, standard office visit charges will apply. This change does not affect the current term.
This change reflects a collaborative decision between the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) and Nebraska Medicine to support long-term sustainability while continuing to provide high-quality care on campus. All services will continue to be available, and you’ll still receive care from the same Nebraska Medicine providers you know and trust.
What is Changing?Student fees will cover up to five office visits per academic year at the UNO Health Center. After five covered visits, standard visit charges will apply. View what is covered by the University Program and Facilities (UPFF) fee. Students can still receive care as needed. This change only affects how visits are billed.
When Does This Change Go Into Effect? This change does not affect the current term. The updated coverage structure will take effect at the start of the next academic year, on July 1, 2026.
Why is This Change Being Made? The university and Nebraska Medicine UNO Health Center worked together to review utilization trends and long-term sustainability of the student health fee model.
The new structure helps:
- Maintain access to on-campus care.
- Maintain and ensure long-term access to the exceptional on-campus care you have come to expect.
- Align coverage more closely with how students are using services.
“Talking visits” with a medical provider will count toward the five visits. These are conversations with a provider about a concern, such as a cough that won’t go away or a rash that has recently developed. Anything additional, such as testing, immunizations and prescriptions for the concern, will not be covered by student fees and will have a charge.
What Happens After Five Visits?Students can continue receiving care at the UNO Health Center after their five covered visits. Standard visit charges will apply, similar to typical health care billing. Insurance may cover some or all of these charges depending on the patient’s plan. Financial assistance is also available through Nebraska Medicine.
Questions About BillingIf you receive a bill or have questions about charges, please contact the billing and insurance office at 402.559.3140 or find more information about the Nebraska Medicine Patient Financial Services team.
Our Commitment to Student CareThis change does not reduce care. Students will continue to have access to the same comprehensive medical services delivered by Nebraska Medicine providers.
We are committed to keeping students informed and ensuring access to quality care remains a priority.
