Melinda (Mindy) Hunke, office associate for the Division of Continuing Studies, has been named UNO’s Employee of the Month for December 2021.

Hunke was surprised by the UNO Celebration Committee on Wednesday, Dec. 15, to celebrate the occasion.

In her role, Hunke interacts with hundreds of students, many of whom are returning to college after multiple years away, ensuring that they have the best experience possible at UNO.

“Mindy works tirelessly to make sure she has connected with every current, prospective, and newly admitted student via phone and/or email, providing a welcoming environment and needed resources from the very first opportunity for engagement,” her nominator said. “Her dedication to our department and to our program includes serving as a resource herself.”

Hunke's efforts to make connections and find the resources students need were noted throughout her nomination.

“Mindy has gone above and beyond in learning new computer programs and ways of tracking information, getting students what they need, and serving as an ambassador for the Division of Continuing Studies and the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies by being a master of her job,” her nominator said. “She looks at students holistically and is always seeking ways to make their individual university experience rewarding.”

In supporting students, as well as her colleagues, Hunke plays a vital role in the success of the Division of Continuing Studies' daily goals and overall contributions to UNO.

“Mindy takes the time to review and recognize the needs of each individual student and she adapts her response to each individual student, and she adapts her responses to each encounter,” her nominator said. “The same goes for her colleagues- she helps with a wide variety of tasks, always with the end goals of enabling students, our department, and our degree program to thrive.”

For being awarded Employee of the Month, Hunke will receive a certificate, hot/cold tumbler, monetary award, two tickets to a UNO sporting event and use of a designated parking space.
