The world seems a little brighter when Seth Hofer is around.
Ask the Elkhorn North senior’s teachers, cheer coaches, classmates, and family to describe Seth Hofer and they’ll quickly use words like “passionate,” “thoughtful,” “energetic,” or “caring.”
Thanks to the Maverick in the Making Scholarship, Seth is one step closer to sharing his spark and boundless positive energy with like-minded Mavericks at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
“A Maverick in one word is driven,” Hofer said. “You never see them slacking off, they’re always pushing each other.”
Maverick in the Making recognizes high school seniors like Hofer who are making a difference in their communities by awarding them a scholarship to UNO for $4,000. For Hofer, the scholarship is more than a financial benefit – it’s an added boost of confidence as he seek out more scholarships.
“It’s going to push me to look for more scholarships now that I know I can obtain one, and focus on being that Maverick in the Making and being that representative for UNO,” he said.
At Elkhorn North, Hofer has been involved in cheerleading and can be found on game days encouraging students to attend athletic events so they can find joy in being part of a school community. Hofer said he wants to translate his caring spirit into pursuing a career as a traveling nurse so he can help others.
Ashley Koluch, Hofer’s cheer coach at Elkhorn North, said the future Maverick’s finds a way to inspire everyone he interacts with.
“He not only strives to better himself, but he pushes everyone to be better as well,” Ashley Koluch, Elkhorn North High School Cheer coach. “I just love that about him.”
