Carolyn Schwink receives the June 2021 UNO Employee of the Month recognition.

Carolyn Schwinck, office assistant for KVNO, has been named UNO's Employee of the Month for June 2021.

Schwinck was surprised by the UNO Celebration Committee on Wednesday, June 9, to celebrate the occasion.

In her nomination letters, Schwinck was recognized for the multi-layered elements that go into managing the day-to-day operations of a public radio station. This includes not only funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting but also individual listeners and donors, which can vary from $20 contributions to $500 or more for a given year.

Additionally, Schwinck provides important logistical support to ensure KVNO staff have yearly certifications maintained, guests have the proper parking accommodations, managing student worker hours, and keeping things seamlessly operating during the radio station's bi-annual fundraising drives.

"Carolyn is diligent in checking emails and other correspondence from the FCC, CPB, other funding sources, and the public to make sure the people who need to see them do," her nomination letter states. "She also keeps staff up to date on the status of contributions from our listeners. This is important for staff morale because it is a direct indication that our audience supports what we do."

Her nomination highlights how important Carolyn's role as bookkeeper is for the station.

"Our station undergoes a deep external audit every fall, mandated by the Center for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and she spends a couple months preparing for this on-site audit and a couple months afterwards for post-audit answering of questions."

Above all else, Schwinck was praised in her nomination letter for her accommodating nature, willingness to work through change, and maintaining poise throughout.

"Carolyn sees things that others do not and works to guarantee nothing falls through the cracks and all angles are examined. She does the work that no one else in our office can do, and she is one of those employees who alllowes manages to sleep at night."

For being awarded as Employee of the Month, Schwinck will receive a certificate, hot/cold tumbler, monetary award, two tickets to a UNO sporting event and use of a designated parking space.
