Maverick Food Pantry Helps Community Members in Need
Tucked away in the back of UNO’s Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center is the Maverick Food Pantry, a resource available to currently enrolled students at UNO, UNMC, and CSM; Avenue Scholars students; and currently employed faculty and staff members at UNO.
It’s difficult to cultivate a proper learning environment when you are hungry and worried about where your next meal will come from.
Tucked away in the back of UNO’s Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center is the Maverick Food Pantry, a resource available to UNO students, faculty, and staff to counter food insecurity and provide access to essential hygiene products.
Jenika Jennings, a student who has taken advantage of this free resource, spoke to KMTV about how the Maverick Food Pantry has impacted her. “I didn’t have a car, I didn’t have family really, so being able to walk from the dorms to this building — it saved me worrying about how to get to Walmart or a grocery store and it provided me with basic things,” Jennings said.
Maverick Food Pantry Coordinator Madeline St. Clair said that, in addition to serving the UNO community, the Maverick Food Pantry is also open to staff, students, and faculty at UNMC, College of Saint Mary, and students associated with Avenue Scholars.
