Where does Teja Farley get the energy to take part in Future Business Leaders of America, student council, National Honors Society, volleyball, cheerleading, tutoring, among her many other extracurricular pursuits?
“What drives me to help other people is just the satisfaction of getting to see other people being successful in their community service, as well as mine,” Farley said. ”I love to help people and help them thrive.”
Farley, a senior at Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca High School and the latest recipient of the Maverick in the Making Scholarship, will attend UNO beginning with the Fall 2021 semester with a mission to turn a passion for helping others into a career.
Maverick in the Making recognizes high school seniors like Farley who are making a difference in their communities by awarding a scholarship to the University of Nebraska at Omaha for $4,000.
The scholarship dollars will start Farley on a path toward her ultimate career goal of becoming an educational psychologist at a small public school in Nebraska.
“I love children and I love to help them and be a part of their lives,” Farley said. ”I feel that this would be a great opportunity for me to help children.”
Teja’s mother Amber Farley said her daughter has always had the Maverick Spirit and had UNO as her top higher-ed destination for more than two years.
“This scholarship could not be more perfect for her, because she is definitely the meaning of a Maverick,” Amber Farley said. “She is a very independent-minded individual and always has been since the day she was born.”
