Alex Zatizabal-Boryca, assistant director of digital learning, has been named UNO's Employee of the Month for February 2021.
Zatizabal-Boryca was surprised by UNO's virtual Celebration Committee on Wednesday, Feb. 17.
Nominated by her colleagues, Zatizabal-Boryca was specifically celebrated for her work with the Career Currency program, which launched this past summer and features partnerships with local businesses currently including Union Pacific, Mutual of Omaha, and OPPD.
"Not only does she help the students, but she is the lead contact between senior administration and the working group," a nominator writes. "She goes above and beyond to make sure that everyone's needs are being met."
Zatizabal-Boryca was also recognized for her support of non-traditional and graduate students who struggled with the transition to remote learning in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Alex has been an absolute legend in her ability to navigate ambiguity and uncertainty in recent projects," the nominator wrote. "She has exercised a great deal of organization and critical thinking in moving various working groups towards achieving goals."
Across each of her nominations, Zatizabal-Boryca was celebrated for her commitment to students and UNO's mission of access. As one nominator described:
"Any Maverick who knows Alex knows that she is always ready to listen and willing to help where she can."
For being nominated as Employee of the Month, Zatizabal-Boryca will receive a certificate, hot/cold tumbler, monetary award, two tickets to a UNO sporting event and use of a designated parking space.
