Part of Education Abroad’s purpose is to partner with departments, faculty, and staff to increase the number of international opportunities available to UNO students.

Studying abroad is one of the best investments that students can make for their future. It gives them the opportunity to explore new locations and ideas, broadens their perspectives, and helps them grow both academically and personally.

We sincerely appreciate your support in expanding our program offerings and encouraging students to develop their global citizenship. These are a few of the ways that you can get involved with Education Abroad.

As a faculty or staff member, you are one of the biggest influencers for students in the decision to study abroad. Students value and trust your opinions, and sometimes a simple word of encouragement is all that is needed.

**Faculty:** We love the opportunity to briefly present about Education Abroad in your courses and are happy to provide you with informational material at any time. We are also able to put together a list of recommended programs to benefit students in your academic discipline.

**Staff:** Please invite us to your events, include our information in your orientations and newsletters, and help us spread the word about study abroad opportunities. We love meeting your students, your teams, sharing swag, and serving as a resource for global connection.

To receive transfer credit for coursework completed abroad, students must have their courses approved for transfer to UNO. They work with the appropriate contacts in their colleges and departments to determine how courses will apply toward their degree, including major, minor, concentration, elective, and general education requirements.

**Academic Advisors:** We encourage students to meet with you before selecting a study abroad program. Your guidance in reviewing their program options for academic fit helps students make informed decisions. Students may also ask you to approve general education requirements (e.g., HUMNGE or SSCIGE) or direct them to the appropriate course approvers within your college or department.

**Faculty & Department Chairs:** Students will contact you to request transfer credit evaluations. Through the MavsAbroad Portal, they receive email templates and guidance on your college's course approval process. To approve a course, simply reply with the corresponding UNO course designation. Equivalencies may be specific (e.g., SPAN 3030) or general (e.g., SPAN 4960: Special Topics, SPAN-UL, FLNG-UL). Please copy the Education Abroad Office on your response.

**Need help evaluating courses?** The Education Abroad Office reviews study abroad transcripts, converts international credits and grades to U.S. equivalents, and submits them to the Registrar. If you have questions about course content, credit hours, or transferability, please contact our office for assistance.

You can play a vital role in expanding global learning opportunities by leading a Global Course. These faculty and staff led programs account for the majority of UNO's study abroad participation and offer students the opportunity to explore a focused topic while building meaningful connections with you and their classmates.

Leading a Global Course also benefits you. It supports your professional development, brings new energy to your teaching or work with students, and allows you to use the world as your classroom.

When you lead a program, the Education Abroad Office is here to support you every step of the way. We provide resources and assistance with program planning, logistics, coordination, and marketing so you can focus on creating a meaningful learning experience. Melia Markham is our dedicated Global Course Coordinator and your first point of contact if you'd like to explore leading a Global Course.
