Follow these steps to join us in IEP!

Apply to IEP
- Apply to the Intensive English Program!
- After you apply and submit all your required documents, allow our admissions team 7-10 business days to process your information
- Once everything is set, the admissions team will issue you a Form I-20 and an admission letter

Commit to Attend
- Upload your documents to MavLink (UNO Student Portal) showing your commitment to the program

Pay SEVIS Fee
- After you are admitted and have your Form I-20, go to the SEVIS & Immigration website to learn about the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and pay the SEVIS fee to the U.S. government.
- This is required before you go for a visa appointment

Request Housing
- After being admitted, review the International Student Housing Options
- If you will live on-campus in the UNO Residence Halls, complete the UNO Housing Application

Obtain a Visa
- As soon as you pay the SEVIS fee, schedule a visa appointment with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel.html
- Check with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate about specific requirements for obtaining your visa
- F and J students must print their I-901 SEVIS Fee payment receipt and present it as proof of payment at their visa interview and when entering the United States at a U.S. port of entry.
- You may not use an email notice as proof of payment

Pre-Arrival
- Once enrolled in a course, you will receive an email inviting you to join UNO Canvas course.
- Complete the International Student Plans arrival form at least two weeks before the program start date.

Arrive in Omaha (OMA Airport)
- All new IEP students must arrive no later than the day before orientation.
- We will provide an Uber (private taxi service) upon request.
- Check Canvas for additional arrival information.

Check In
- Completing the Check-In and New Student Compliance e-forms in iGlobal: iglobal.nebraska.edu.
- This is where you will upload a copy of your I-20 or DS-2019, passport, visa, and I-94 for International Advising to review before activating your SEVIS record.
- Update your local/current address in MavLINK

Attend Orientation
- Orientation and other important dates can be found on Canvas.
- Bring all of your immigration documents (passport, visa, I-20, I-94, immunization records)

Begin Classes & Pay Your Bill
- Check Canvas for the course start date (among other important dates).
- Check UNO Tuition Due Dates to see when the IEP Course bill is due.
Important Information
- Insurance Coverage Dates: Insurance for the fall term begins August 1 and ends December 31. Insurance for the spring term begins January 1 and ends July 31. Students may enter the U.S. up to 30 days before their initial program start date listed on their I-20. Students entering before insurance coverage begins should independently purchase health insurance to cover travel and dates in the U.S. before insurance begins.
- Students transferring from another school in the United States should do the e-form requesting a transfer I-20. These should be done before or within the first two weeks of classes.
