When you apply for your passport in your home country, it is important to note that each individual who needs a visa will need a separate passport application.
Scholars and their dependents in the U.S. must maintain a valid passport with an expiration date of six (6) months beyond their length of stay in the U.S.
If Your Passport Expires or Will Expire Soon
If your passport expires while in Omaha at UNO, take steps early to renew it, as it can take longer than renewal in your home country.
- Contact your U.S. Consulate or Embassy for instructions and start the renewal process immediately.
- Once you receive your new passport, keep the expired passport for your records. Valid J-1 visas will remain valid even when attached to an expired passport.
