Education and Professional Employment

Mr. Young graduated from Illinois State University with a Criminal Justice major and a Psychology minor. Following graduation, he served as a juvenile detention officer and later as an adult probation officer for McHenry County, Illinois. Mr. Young later joined the McHenry Police Department where he served as a police officer, evidence technician, school resource officer, and investigator. During his time as a police officer, he attended law school at night through the University of Illinois - Chicago and served as a county prosecutor following graduation before leaving to enter private practice doing labor law and police misconduct litigation. Mr. Young moved to Nebraska in 2010 and has served as the labor relations director for the City of Omaha where he negotiated collective bargaining agreements with both police and fire, and he was actively involved in the recruiting and hiring process. Eventually, Mr. Young landed at the Nebraska State Patrol as associate general counsel. In 2024, he was asked by the Attorney General to serve as legal counsel for the judiciary committee of the state legislature, and he holds that position currently.
