If financial aid is important to you, pay special attention to deadlines. The earlier you apply, the better. The University of Nebraska at Omaha is happy to answer your questions. Here are some key dates to keep in mind if you are a first-year or currently enrolled student.

October 1

This is the earliest date a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or Renewal FAFSA can be submitted to the processor for the upcoming year. The FAFSA is the starting point for almost all financial aid, so make sure to submit yours at StudentAid.gov. More Information

January Spring semester classes begin. Disbursement of financial aid begins approximately one week before classes begin. Refunds are issued after the student account is credited with the financial aid disbursement.
February 1

First-Year students must apply for admission by this date to be considered for our base merit scholarships. Most other scholarships awarded at UNO require completion of the General Scholarship application.

March 1 For current or transfer students to be considered for most UNO or NU Foundation scholarships, please submit the UNO Scholarship Application via MavLINK.

Complete the Summer Aid Application on MavLINK after enrolling in Summer courses. More Information

For the 2023-2024 aid year: Students who are eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant according to the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculated on the FAFSA may be eligible to receive Federal Pell Grant funds during the Summer term. The amount awarded will be prorated based on enrollment, not to exceed 50% of the maximum amount listed on your Student Aid Report (SAR).

For the 2024-2025 aid year: Students who are eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant according to the Student Aid Index (SAI) calculated on the FAFSA may be eligible to receive Federal Pell Grant funds during the Summer term. The amount awarded will be prorated based on enrollment, not to exceed 50% of the maximum amount listed on your FAFSA Submission Summary.

Students who have attended full-time during Fall and Spring must be enrolled at least half-time for Summer to be considered for Federal Pell Grant funds. The amount awarded will count towards the student's Pell Lifetime Eligibility Used (maximum lifetime limit).

April - June 1

FAFSA must be received by the Federal Student Aid Processor by June 1, 2023 to receive priority consideration for financial aid for the 2023-2024 academic year.

June - July 1

July 1, 2023 is the priority date to have verification documents turned in for the 2023-2024 academic year to determine Nebraska Promise eligibility.

July 1, 2024 is the priority date to have verification documents turned in for the 2024-2025 academic year to determine Nebraska Promise eligibility.

March through August Use this time to respond to any questions or requests for documentation from the UNO Office of Financial Support and Scholarships.
September 1 The UNO Scholarship Application is available to complete for the following school year via MavLINK.
