Hello! My name is Kaia Phelps and I am running f or Senator for the College of Public Affairs and Community Service (CPACS) for the 2019-20 term. I am running for a CPACS Senator seat because I believe in student advocacy. Student Advocacy goes beyond the scope of being able to defend and articulate the student body perspective. Advocacy also entails networking and collaborations which work together in achieving student body initiatives. I believe that I have established such networks and collaborations. To begin, I serve on the Diversity Committee for CPACS, which affords me the opportunity to be in a student-staff collaborative setting to discuss how to create spaces wherein individuals from multicultural backgrounds feel as if they are an integral part of the University. In CPACS, I also serve as a Student Ambassador, which allows me to speak with criminal justice professionals and act as a student representative to visitors of the college. Lastly, I also serve as a member of Student Government’s Judicial Committee, which is a committee concerned with addressing student affairs and conduct to determine whether university regulations have been violated. With these connections and more I hope to serve my peers in the best way I know possible and hope to get your vote March 13th! Thank you.
