Why are you running for Student Government?
I want to run for a position in UNO's Student Government because I want to get increase my involvement in student organizations since I have finally adjusted to the college experience. Adding to that, I believe that I can benefit from becoming involved in UNO’s Student government because it would give me a hands-on experience on what exactly happens in politics.
I would also benefit from this because Student Government would give me the opportunity to practice valuable skills such as public speaking, leadership, communication, time management, and much more. Despite that, I have always believed that it our duty to stand up for what we believe in to make our own impact on society and Student Government would give me this unique chance.
Which issue do you think should be changed or improved on campus?
Well, there are a variety of different issues here on campus, but there are also a ton of great things that happen here at UNO. If I could change something, I would like to increase students’ hands on experiences relating to the student’s future occupation.
To accomplish this, I could individually reach out to businesses to provide more opportunities or I could help create a student organization to help students get out into the field. I believe that this would also help students decide if what they are studying is what they really want to do for the rest of their lives.
Also, learning the technical stuff relating to a student’s future occupation is only half the journey, providing students with this opportunity would give them a step above fellow applicants after they graduate.
What makes you qualified to sit on Student Government?
I believe that I am qualified for a seat in Student Government because I have had been in many leadership roles over my lifetime. For example, when I was in high school, I was elected State Secretary for SkillsUSA, which is a student ran organization that prepares middle, high school, and college students for the workforce.
Furthermore, I was in student government myself for my sophomore and junior year while I was in high school. Besides my personal experiences, I know that I would fit well in to UNO's Student Government because I am able to keep an open mind and try my best to keep my bias's out of the equation when I am presented to or asked to present something. In addition, I also come from a vary diverse background which could possibly help when discussing things.
Finally, unlike many other applicants I am extremely familiar with Roberts rules of order, especially since I spent a year practicing it as state Secretary for SkillsUSA.
