Why are you running for Student Government?
As I reflect on the past three semesters of my undergrad there are some things that I deeply regret. The one thing I regret the most is not being able to be involved on-campus and giving back to our campus community.
Often, we get caught up in our studies and forget to be involved. As a neuroscience major, I would say that I am guilty of this. Being involved was something I wanted to do but I was too focused on my studies that I forgot to get out there. Being involved on-campus would be an amazing opportunity for me to boost my confidence level and help me deal with my imposter syndrome.
Which issue do think should be changed or improved on campus?
Like I mentioned earlier, students get caught up in their studies and forget to be involved. Many students focus mainly on their studies and forget the bigger picture. College is meant for students to get involved and get out there and meet new people and get connected.
Getting involved in extracurricular activities doesn’t just stop after high school. An extracurricular activity could be anything. I was one of those students who came to college and all I did was attend my classes and during my free time, I spent my time sleeping. And I know a lot of students do what I do.
Therefore, I want to encourage more students to get involved and help them find groups where they feel like they belong. This will help improve their overall college experience and get them connected.
What makes you qualified to sit on Student Government?
I have obtained many leadership positions during my academic career. One leadership position that I am still proud of was being the community service chair for Thrive club. I loved organizing events and leading all the projects that impact hundreds of individuals.
When I was a community service chair, I made appointments and contacted different people to sponsor our project. I felt like I was making a difference. Therefore, I know that I can lead and help by being a servant leader to my fellow students.
I will be committed to this position by making it a priority to attend all the regular meetings and perform my duty as a senator.
