Additional Information
Why are you running for Student Government?
My main reason for running for vice president is to be an effective manager of Freshman Leadership Council (FLC). I want to urge new students at UNO to get involved and build leadership skills that can carry them through the rest of their college career. I want to build upon the strong community ties that FLC has created in the past, and emphasize that service to others is an important aspect of leadership.
I have experienced how fulfilling and fun Student Government is, and I want to share this with freshmen and introduce them to how they can make a difference on their campus. I also want to be vice president so I can be an advocate for the students of UNO, and be an active voice for our issues towards administration.
Which issue do you think should be changed or improved on campus?
If elected, we will take action on building a more sustainable campus, providing an inclusive environment for learning and activities, and representing the students on the issue of parking at UNO.
We recognize the impact we have on our environment, and we want UNO to be an example of what a sustainable and environmentally-friendly campus can be. We plan on improving access to composting and finding sustainable alternatives to disposable products across campus. We will ensure that all students and organizations have a voice.
Additionally, we want to support the large portion of the student body that is commuter students. We believe that distance from campus should not prevent students from having a great experience at UNO.
We also will encourage Student Government to collaborate with student organizations to complete projects and solve problems. Parking at UNO is also a problem. Many students have been vocal about the state of parking on our campus, and given the lack of response to these concerns it is clearly time for change. We plan on expanding the waiver policy, removing predatory booting and towing, and reducing ticket prices.
What makes you qualified to sit on Student Government?
I am qualified to sit on Student Government through my experience serving on Freshman Leadership Council, as well as being a 2019-2020 Arts and Sciences Senator. I was first introduced to Student Government through FLC, and I loved being a part of it. We created a bond as a group and all had common goals to improve our campus. This sense of teamwork was something I carry with me as a Senator.
When completing a project, I always reach out to other members of the Senate, and offer my help to the projects of others. Additionally, the most important part of being a leader is the spirit of service to others. As a member of Student Government and Chi Omega, I have had countless experiences and opportunities to lead through service. Whether this is service to my constituents or to the community as a whole, I will dedicate my time and attention towards others.
