Additional Information
Why are you running for Student Government?
To me being a senator on student government has the potential to organize some serious and long-lasting change on campus. In my short time here at UNO I've noticed a multitude of problems from parking to students' not knowing about the resources available to them.
Being a senator would allow me the chance to address these problems and try and make UNO a better place for everyone. Moreover, I want to make connections with like-minded individuals who also have UNO's best interest at heart.
Which issue do think should be changed or improved on campus?
The biggest issue that needs to be tackled on campus is communication, specifically between organizations planning events and the general student body population. A majority of the time student has no idea what events are going on in a given week.
While emails might be sent out about events such as Durango Days, involvement fairs, or career fairs the fact of the matter is that a lot of students don't actively change their email. A much more effective method of disseminating information would be to create a social media account/ reminder text service run by student government that's dedicated to blasting out information about events being put on by any UNO organization. This would increase the likelihood of student seeing what events are going on and thus has the potential to increase turn out at events.
What makes you qualified to sit on Student Government?
I've had the great honor of holding many leadership positions throughout my life. Within high school, I was president of the choir department, head captain for debate, and secretary for HOSA. Currently, I serve as the Campus Involvement chair for Pi Kappa Alpha and am also a member of the Association of Latin American Students and pre-med committee while majoring in neuroscience with a GPA of 3.84.
I pride myself on my time management and communication skills which are vital for effective leadership. Thus, I believe that the skills I've acquired from being involved as well as the diversity of what I'm involved with makes me more than qualified to serve as a senator as I'm in tune with multiple groups at UNO and what they would like to see from Student Government in the future.
